High streamflow advisory lifted, RDEK clears debris in Mine and Hosmer Creeks

Crews with the RDEK made sure water levels didn’t rise too much in the Hosmer area last night, clearing debris to restore water flow.

“Our Flood Response Unit had been on-site monitoring conditions after residents reported a sharp rise in water levels,” said RDEK communications manager Loree Duczek.

“There is an area that is prone to debris build-up where Mine Creek and Hosmer Creek meet and the decision was made to seek approval from the Province for in-water works to remove the debris and restore water flow.”

Debris removal was completed late last night and RDEK officials say there was a noticeable decrease in water levels.

Crews were back on the site this morning for clean-up.

The high streamflow advisory has been lifted for the East Kootenay, however as high-elevation snow continues to melt an advisory may be put in place again.
