Public meeting set to discuss planned residential development in Sparwood

New Dawn Developments will host a meeting for residents to learn about their planned Westwood Heights project next Monday.

The Cranbrook-based company purchased the 20.45-hectare plot of land from Sparwood for $818,400.

New Dawn plans to use the land to build a mix of single-family homes and multi-family fourplex units.

“If New Dawn moves forward with duplexes and fourplexes, it certainly brings in the opportunity for more attainable housing for people who can’t able to afford a single-family home or those kinds of homes that have become out of reach,” said Mayor David Wilks. “I’m looking forward to the meeting and seeing what New Dawn has to offer.”

Wilks said he will be there with other council members to answer questions from the District’s perspective.

“We had land available, we conditionally sold it to New Dawn. Now they do their due diligence and process to determine how they move forward,” said Wilks.

The meeting will go ahead at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Sparwood Recreation Centre.
