Highway 3 Getting New Passing Lane Outside Jaffray

The B.C. Ministry of Transporation will construct a new passing lane along Highway 3 just outside of Jaffray in 2020.

The passing lane will be about 2.5 kilometres long heading westbound outside of Jaffray.

Before plans move forward on the passing lane, the B.C. Ministry of Transporation and Infrastructure is holding a public engagement session to collect feedback from residents.

The public consultation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the Jaffray Community Centre from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, located at 7369 Village Loop Road.

“This corridor is a vital route for people, goods and services and provides access to many communities in southern British Columbia,” said Claire Trevena, B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Westbound traffic leaving Jaffray regularly gets backed up, so adding a long passing lane will make it safer and easier for people to pass slower-moving vehicles in the area.”

Following their engagement with the public, the design for the passing lane will be finalized. The project is expected to go to tender in early 2020, with construction slated to begin next spring and be completed in late 2020.
