43-year-old man killed in workplace accident in Sparwood

A workplace accident in Sparwood left a man from the Crowsnest Pass area dead after he was thrown from a semi-trailer.

Elk Valley RCMP said officers and first responders were sent to the 500 block of Michel Creek Road just after 6:45 a.m. on Sunday.

According to police, the man was unloading equipment when he was thrown from the flat deck of a semi-trailer, suffering life-threatening injuries.

RCMP and the BC Ambulance Service attempted to treat the man at the scene, including the use of CPR.

He was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after, despite continued efforts to revive him.

RCMP and Labour Canada are running parallel investigations into the incident.

“The business, other support companies and employees are cooperating with police,” said Elk Valley RCMP officials. “Elk Valley RCMP offers our condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time.”
