U18 Bucks bring home the gold

The U18 Bucks won gold over the weekend in a tournament in Trail.

The tournament had eight teams coming from Nanaimo, Terrace, the Okanagan and the Kootenays.

The U18 Bucks have players from Elkford, Sparwood, Fernie, Kimberley, Cranbrook and Invermere.

Through round-robin play, the U18 Bucks went 1-1-1.

In the semi-final matchup against West Kelowna, the U18 Bucks battled back from a three-goal deficit to tie the game with 43 seconds left in the third.

No goals were scored in overtime and Vinny Fiorentino and Caden Williams scored in a shootout to move on to the final.

They defeated Castlegar 9-1 to win gold.

They will be back on the ice this weekend hosting their own tournament.

The first game will be at 8:15 p.m. Friday night at the Memorial Arena against Strathcona.
