Cranbrook to reach out to B.C. government about urban dear again

City staff will send another letter to B.C.’s Ministry of Forests to further discuss issues with urban deer roaming the community.

The letter will be signed by Mayor Wayne Price on behalf of city council.

Last year, city council asked to meet with the Ministry to discuss urban deer. That meeting went ahead in the spring of 2022.

“Ministry staff at that time indicated that discussions would happen within the Ministry to see what might be able to be done. Staff had several discussions with local Ministry staff in the summer of 2023 about potential management strategies,” said city officials.

So far, no plans or actions have been enacted to help manage the urban deer population.

Since their last meeting, B.C. has a new Minister of Forests, with Bruce Ralston at the helm and Cranbrook has a new mayor and council.
