Non-emergency surgeries postponed at East Kootenay Regional Hospital after flood

Some elective surgeries will be postponed at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital after a flood in the medical device reprocessing department.

Interior Health officials said this has impacted the availability of surgical kits.

Despite that, emergency surgeries will continue using kits sterilized at an alternate location.

The department is expected to be out of commission for up to six weeks, and officials said anyone affected by the stoppage will be notified.

“All postponed cases will be booked as a priority as soon as enough surgical kits are available for both emergency and non-emergency surgeries,” said Interior Health.
