Canfor to curtail production at west Canadian sawmills this month

Canfor is slowing down production at its sawmills in western Canada for a few weeks, citing “very weak market conditions.”

Company officials said all of its facilities in B.C. and Alberta will curtail operations for one to four weeks, starting on Dec, 19.

They note that this will remove about 150 million board feet from production in December and January.

“The Company will continue to adjust operating rates to align with market conditions and anticipates that the majority of its BC facilities will operate below full capacity in the New Year,” said company officials.
