Fernie Chamber of Commerce appoints new director

Fernie’s Chamber of Commerce has appointed a new executive director.

Fernie Chamber officials said Wendy McDougall will step into the role, boasting a Degree in Commerce from the University of Calgary and over 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

McDougall will also be stepping into the role with non-profit and board experience.

“I am eager to bring my past and present experience to this role with a personal passion to advocacy on behalf of businesses and be a part of building Fernie’s sustainable economic growth,” said McDougall.

McDougall moved to Fernie with her family in 2019, after visiting the community on weekends and holidays for over a decade.

Since moving in, she has become president of the Fernie Alpine Ski Team and regularly volunteers for the club.

“We look forward to continuing to grow the profile and momentum of the chamber under Wendy’s leadership,” said Norman Fraser, president of the board of directors. “Wendy’s experience, and the strength of the rest of the team, will help us advance the chambers strategic priorities and mission of strengthening the local economy and quality of life in Fernie.”

McDougall said she is eager to work with the Chamber’s partners and the rest of the community from her new position.
