College of the Rockies Elects New Board Chair

The new Chair, a former 15-year member of the Fernie City Council, will serve for a one-year term.

Randal Macnair, a publisher for Fernie-based Oolichan Books, was appointed to the Board in December of 2017 by the Province.

“Randal is in his second year of serving on the College Board. His interest and passion for education, along with his understanding of the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead for us at the College, make him a natural fit for the Chair role,” said College President and CEO, David Walls. “I look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

The college sais Macnair is stepping into this role with dedicated to public service and a long list of accomplishments; he served almost 20 years with the Fernie Rotary Club and is currently the Elk Valley Conservation Coordinator with Wildsight.

Macnair will be taking over the position from Jesse Nicholas, elected in 2017. Nicholas will remain on as a member of the Board.

New faculty representative, Greg McCallum, and two student representatives, Reginald Goldsbury and Bradley Schmidt, will be sworn in at the November 7 Board meeting.

Born and raised in Cranbrook, they graduated from Lethbridge College in 2019. They came back for a practicum position with 2dayFM in Cranbrook, resulting in a job as the Saturday show host before moving into the newsroom. They have covered a wide variety of topics ranging from federal politics to local interest. Their after-hours passion lies in local history, gardening and coin collecting.
