If you are heading out on the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass or Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, drive with care, as a snowfall warning is in place.
Environment Canada is predicting about 15 centimetres of snow accumulation in those areas starting Friday morning and continuing until the evening.
The forecaster said this weather comes as a Pacific frontal system will sweep over B.C.’s interior on Friday.
“Heavy snow from the system will start over Trans-Canada Highway – Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass in the morning and spread to Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass in the afternoon,” said Environment Canada officials. “The snow will taper off to a few flurries early in the evening as the front moves southward away from the region.”
Drivers are asked to adjust to the road conditions, use winter tires and plan ahead.
Environment Canada officials said heavy snowfall may suddenly reduce visibility at times.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” said officials. “Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
