Independent Investigations Office of BC investigating 2021 Cranbrook RCMP incident

A September 2021 incident in Cranbrook is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC after a suspect sustained serious injuries.

On Sept. 9, police attempted to stop a red Pontiac Grand Prix, but the driver refused to stop.

The vehicle collided with police vehicles and while being taken into custody there was an interaction between the driver and police that involved a police service dog.

The IIO was notified of the incident on Sept. 6 of this year after the RCMP became aware of new information that the man’s injuries may meet the threshold of serious harm.

The IIO is asking anyone with information or video to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death. It doesn’t mean anyone has actually been accused of wrongdoing.
