EKC votes to merge with Heritage Credit Union

East Kootenay Credit Union membership has voted 90 per cent in favour to join Heritage Credit Union but it won’t be finalized until Heritage gets a chance to vote.

Heritage Credit Union members vote from Dec 8 – 14 and if approved, Jan. 1 would be the first day of operation as a merged entity.

EKC officials said the reason for the merger is to strengthen and modernize their operations.

They wanted to make sure they were keeping the service as local as possible so merging with another Kootenay-based credit union made the most sense.

If the merge is approved next month, there will also be a name change.

Both organizations have decided on the name StellerVista Credit Union.
