Mainroad East Kootenay urges caution as winter driving arrives

Mainroad East Kootenay is reminding drivers to be aware of the conditions as winter driving conditions become more frequent.

Mainroad crews will be patrolling service area highways and roads and will apply specific material to the road surface depending on the conditions.

They will also be pre-salting/brining before storms.

“Road cones don’t disappear in winter…slow down and drive with extreme care near a Cone Zone, watch for crews,” said Teagan Burton, General Manager.

“Stay alert and minimize distractions. Show respect for the person working at the side of the road. Make sure to give them space (move over to another lane, if it’s safe to do so) and obey traffic control.”

They also said winter driving conditions aren’t just ice and snow but also fog, rain, poor visibility, and lack of daylight.
