Shadow Mountain sanitary sewer construction passed at inaugural council meeting

The City of Cranbrook council has approved the Shadow Mountain sanitary sewer construction pending loan approval.

In September, council issued a petition so residents of Shadow
Mountain could determine if a new sanitary sewer force main should be built connecting the development to the City of Cranbrook’s sewage treatment system.

City staff said there were not enough petitions to stop the process.

The general taxpayer will not be funding this project. Instead, any costs will be paid for by property owners in that area through a parcel tax.

Currently, the area is using an onsite sewer holding tank system that needs storing and trucking of sewage.

If the loan is approved, work will begin early next year with the majority of the project being finished by the end of 2023.

The collection of the parcel tax will begin in the summer of 2024.
