Invermere mayor and council candidates win by acclimation

Everyone with eyes on a seat on Invermere’s council won their spot by acclimation.

Mayor Al Miller will be joined by incumbents Kayja Becker and Gerry Taft along with newcomers Mark Topliff and Theresa Wood.

“I was very happy to be acclaimed and have council be acclaimed as well,” said Miller. “It meant to me that I think people here are reasonably happy, and that’s certainly what I want.”

The mayor said he looks forward to working with the new and returning council members.

“I think it’s going to be a nice mix, we’re going to have two ladies and two men,” said Miller. “Certainly we also have both youth and seniors covered. So I think we’re going to be okay.”

Miller said council will get to work trying to take an issue that is not unique to Invermere.

“We need to get some proper, attainable rentals and housing for people. We are really in short supply and we need a lot more units in the community,” said Miller. “That should help with the pricing if we have more units available.”

Miller notes that Invermere has a few housing developments on the horizon.
