Mayor’s seat goes to Nic Milligan in Fernie

Political newcomer Nic Milligan is Fernie’s newest mayor, earning 68.5 per cent of the vote.

Milligan had this to say about his win.

“I feel great, a little overwhelmed and humbled by the response from the community, but I’m very grateful for the outcome and looking forward to the challenge.”

“I think the whole thing is a positive endeavour. Working for the betterment of the community and ensuring to meet the needs of residents and visitors alike so the quality of live for people in Fernie continues on a steady upward trajectory.”

He said he’s excited to work with the new council.

“We’ve got a great mix of solid experience and new and fresh perspectives,” he added.

“Getting ourselves aligned as a team and earning the trust of our community is our first step.”

Incumbents Kevin McIsaac, Kyle Hamilton and Troy Nixon were elected to city council and so were newcomers Harsh Ramadass, Ted Shoesmith and Tracey Kelly.
