Electoral Boundaries Commission to ask public about proposed changes

A series of public consultation meetings will go ahead to allow residents to have their say on the proposed electoral boundaries map.

Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC) officials said the only change to Kootenay East and Columbia River-Revelstoke is focused around the outskirts of Cranbrook.

“To better balance the population between the Kootenays ridings, we propose extending the southern boundary of Columbia River-Revelstoke to take in the western outskirts of Cranbrook,” said EBC officials.

The preliminary proposal suggests keeping the main core of Cranbrook in Kootenay East, but the outskirts along the north, west and south boundaries of the city will be moved into Columbia River-Revelstoke.

A live meeting will go ahead in Nelson on Oct. 20th, followed by a pair of virtual public hearings on Oct. 21 and Nov. 8.

You can also make an online or written submission to voice your thoughts on the changes.

The EBC will accept feedback until Nov. 22 of this year.
