Elkford council member looking to become district’s next mayor

Elkford district council member Mandy McGregor is looking for a fifth term in local politics, this time as the community’s new mayor.

McGregor said she was voted on to the district council in 2008. She hopes to create a more welcoming community if she wins the election.

“I want to do everything in my power to create a community that feels connected and validated. I want a community that’s built on an atmosphere of total inclusivity,” said McGregor. “I have 14 years of experience that I can bring to the table and I think that’s a benefit to everybody. I want to use my voice to speak for the people of Elkford.”

McGregor said if elected, she wants to get residents more involved in municipal politics.

“I want to tackle the apathy in Elkford. I want to create an environment where people feel they’re being heard, where people are feeling that their concerns are valid and where people feel empowered enough to bring their concerns forward and know they’re going to be addressed in a timely manner,” said McGregor.

McGregor is running against Steve Fairbairn for the mayor’s seat.

General voting day is set for October 15th.
