BC Wildfire Service actioning 150 hectare blaze south of Cranbrook

Crews with the BC Wildfire Service are responding to a fire at Connell Ridge about 15 kilometres south of Cranbrook.

The fire is approximately 150 hectares and it’s believed to be lightning-caused.

BC Wildfire Service officials said the fire has a moderate to fast rate of spread.

One crew is currently on the scene, with a second unit arriving later in the day.

Helicopters are assisting ground crews in moving resources and air tankers and skimmers are providing support by cooling the fire with retardant and water.

The BC Wildfire Service is asking any boaters in the area to keep their boats well away from areas where aircraft are operating.
