Bronze plaques stolen from Cranbrook’s Rotary Park

City workers discovered that two plaques were stolen and a third was damaged in Cranbrook’s Rotary Park.

City officials said staff discovered the incident while setting up for Canada Day festivities.

This comes about a week after a similar incident was reported in Kimberley.

The large bronze plaque on the mural side of the Wall of Honour and another commemorating the loss of workers due to workplace accidents or health-related issues are missing.

A third plaque commemorating the official opening of BC Spirit Square in November 2008 is still there but took some damage while someone attempted to remove it.

“We are extremely disappointed in the actions of those individuals responsible for these thefts ahead of Canada Day – a day intended to celebrate our amazing country with our community, our family and friends,” said City officials.

Those with information are asked to contact Cranbrook RCMP.
