Kimberley approves townhome development

City of Kimberley council has approved a nine-unit development at 99 Fernie Street.

The project includes two buildings. One will have four units and the other will have five.

Each unit will have three bedrooms.

The main concern the public had raised about the new development was an increase in traffic in the area.

Councillor Sandra Roberts says these fears are unfounded.

“I can walk right up to the top of Fernie Street and I maybe pass two cars,” said Roberts.

It doesn’t matter what time of day I go. There’s nobody home up there folks. even the people that are up there it’s so spread out that traffic is not an issue.”

“I can see where if we have a fire emergency or something, somebody may want to know how do we get out of town but right now on a day-to-day basis it’s a moot point.”

While the development was approved there were some conditions the developer needs to follow first.

They must Obtain an access permit before applying for a building permit for the garage and surface parking spaces.

They also need to provide revised architectural plans clearly reflecting the unit layout detailed in the servicing plan.
