Police investigate rooftop graffiti in Fernie

Two teen boys were confronted by Elk Valley RCMP after they were spotted spray painting on the roof of the Red Apple.

Police officials said the two highschool aged boys were reported by an employee of the business on May 3rd.

A video of the boys spray painting graffiti on the roof was given as evidence and they were identified by police.

RCMP officers confronted the teens after an investigation.

“The two youths and their parents were spoken to regarding this mischief behaviour. Both youths were quite apologetic and wished to make their wrong actions right by being accountable and responsible for the harm they caused,” said RCMP officials. “Instead of proceeding through the criminal just system, an alternative was introduced to the victims, youths and their parents.”

Police note restorative justice is a useful means of crime reduction, as the needs of the community and victim are addressed and those responsible are held to account for their actions.
