First responders praised for efforts in three-vehicle collision

Emergency personnel responded to a three-vehicle collision in the Columbia Valley yesterday.

RDEK officials say the crash occurred at the intersection of Columbia Road and Highway 95 near Edgewater.

“Ten members of our Edgewater Fire Department and three pieces of apparatus responded to the call, along with Invermere Fire Rescue, multiple BC Ambulance members, RCMP and STARS Air Ambulance,” explains Columbia Valley Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Drew Sinclair.

According to the RDEK, two patients had to be extricated, with one being airlifted by STARS.

Two others were transported by ground to Invermere and one patient was assessed but did not require transport.

“These are challenging calls and all of the responders on the scene did an excellent job under difficult circumstances,” adds Sinclair.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The RCMP is investigating the cause of the accident.
