Cale Fleury Makes NHL Roster with Montreal Canadiens

Former Kootenay Ice captain and fan favourite defenceman, Cale Fleury has made it to the National Hockey League.

The Montreal Canadiens announced that the 20-year-old had made the team’s opening night roster, as Fleury is expected to make his NHL debut on Thursday, when Montreal visits the Carolina Hurricanes for the season opener.

Fleury played 60 games in the AHL last season with the Laval Rocket, putting up 23 points, including 9 goals, and 14 assists.

The Calgary, Alberta native was drafted 87th overall by Montreal in the 3rd round of the 2017 NHL Draft.

In his time with the Kootenay Ice, Fleury played 218 games and was captain for two seasons. All-time, Fleury had 26 goals and 60 assists for 86 points while playing in Cranbrook. The captain was then traded about a quarter of the way through the 2018 season to the Regina Pats where he closed out his WHL career and played in the 2018 Memorial Cup.
