Dynamiters Earn Overtime Win Against Ghostriders

The Kimberley Dynamiters and Fernie Ghostriders clashed last night, as the two rivals went head-to-head at Fernie Memorial Arena with the Dynamiters edging the Ghostriders 2-1 in overtime.

In the team’s first meeting of the new KIJHL season, Kimberley managed to extend their winning streak to five games while Fernie has now lost three straight following their 3-2 overtime win on opening night over the Nelson Leafs.

Following a scoreless first period, Dylan Defosse would give Fernie a 1-0 lead, but before the end of the period, the Dynamiters would capitalize on a power play to even the score 1-1.

Another scoreless third period would lead the game to overtime and then the second edition of overtime, where Brock Palmer would score his eighth goal of the year for the Dynamiters to give Kimberley the 2-1 victory. Palmer leads the entire KIJHL with 12 points (8G, 4A) through the first five games of the season.

Both netminders stood tall for their respective teams as Blake Pilon stopped 38 of 39 shots for the Dynamiters in the win while Chance Griffith turned aside 34 of 36 shots for the Ghostriders in the loss.

Entering the weekend, the Ghostriders will look to snap their three-game skid against the Columbia Valley Rockies in Invermere on Friday or against the Princeton Posse back at Fernie Memorial Arena on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Dynamiters hope to extend their winning streak as they entertain Princeton at the Kimberley Civic Centre on Friday for the team’s only game of the weekend.
