Ghostriders and Dynamiters Renew KIJHL Rivalry

For the first time this season, the Kimberley Dynamiters and Fernie Ghostriders will clash in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The heated rivals meet tonight at Fernie Memorial Arena, as both teams will take to the ice at 7:30 pm.

Kimberley is off to a perfect start to their season, winning their first four games of the year. This past weekend the Dynamiters earned a 4-3 win in overtime over the Nelson Leafs and a 4-2 victory against the Columbia Valley Rockies. Tuesday’s matchup in Fernie will serve as Kimberley’s first road game of the season.

The Dynamiters have the KIJHL’s leading scorer through four games as Brock Palmer (7G, 4A) leads the entire league with 11 points.

Fernie won their opening game of the year but struggled this past weekend, finding themselves on a two-game losing skid entering Tuesday’s contest. Over the weekend, the Ghostriders fell 5-2 on the road to the Golden Rockets before dropping their home opener to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 5-3.

The Ghostriders are led by rookie Aaron Hladiuk (4A) who has yet to find the back of the net but leads the team with four points through their first three games.

Kimberley will look for their fifth straight win to start the season, while Fernie will look to snap their skid and get back on track.

Both teams take to the ice at Fernie Memorial Arena at 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
