Cranbrook firefighters respond to fire at motel

Cranbrook firefighters contained a fire at the Travelodge to a single room after it broke out on Wednesday morning.

City of Cranbrook officials said one person was sent to the hospital for burns and smoke exposure, while two more suffered smoke-related injuries while helping other occupants escape.

The room had significant damage and adjacent rooms were affected by the smoke.

Travelodge occupants have been allowed back into the unaffected rooms.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
