Cranbrook RCMP Seize Large Amount of Copper Wire

Cranbrook RCMP recovered a significant amount of copper wire from a suspicious vehicle, and are now reaching out to the public to locate the rightful owners.

In the early morning hours on Monday, September 16, 2019, Cranbrook RCMP were notified about a suspicious individual talking about having stolen wire in his vehicle at a parking lot in Baker Street.

“We went over, located the vehicle with the trailer with a substantial amount, between 250 to 500 pounds of wire in the back of the trailer,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron with Cranbrook RCMP.

Forgeron said the majority of wire was stripped heavy gauge “Teck wire” in varying lengths and that the wire appeared used and weathered.

“We were able to track down the person who owned the vehicle and he could not give us proof that all of this wire belonged to him,” Forgeron told MyEastKootenayNow.com. “We’re just reaching out to the public to see if anybody might be missing some copper wire or some wire that we might be able to get back to them.”

Anyone that might be missing copper wire is asked to contact the Cranbrook RCMP detachment at 250-489-3471.
