Kootenay Ice Agers Strike Gold at 55+ BC Games

The Kootenay Ice Agers captured gold at the 2019 55+ BC Games in Kelowna, winning the Women’s Hockey Championship and avenging last year’s loss in the final.

Dominant from beginning to end, the Kootenay Ice Agers were perfect 4-0 through round-robin action, clinching a berth in the Championship Final against the Sharpshooters from the Lower Mainland.

En route to the Championship Final, the Ice Agers defeated the Tsunami Storm 3-1 from Vancouver Island North, shutout the Boomer Babes 6-0 from Vancouver Island South and edged the Goal Diggers 4-1 from Kootenay Boundary. In their final round-robin contest, the local team crushed the Silver Sistas 6-1, again representing Vancouver Island North.

As a result, the Ice Agers went toe-to-toe with the Sharpshooters on Saturday, September 14th in the gold medal game. Last year, the Lower Mainland team won 2-1 to take the inaugural Women’s Hockey Championship away from the East Kootenay club.

Earning redemption, the game remained scoreless until the closing minutes when Sandy Hughes would net the game’s only goal and give the Ice Agers the 1-0 victory. Jean Terpsma was lights out in goal, earning the shutout.

Throughout the entire 55+ BC Games in Kelowna, the Ice Agers outscored their opponents 20-3 in their five games.
