Sparwood SAR Hosting Regional Training Exercise

Sparwood is hosting the Southeast Region Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) over the weekend and will have a heavy presence around the Elk Valley.

Search and Rescue volunteers from across the Kootenays are converging on Sparwood for SAREX, giving them an opportunity to train, share ideas and test their newfound skills that can be utilized in the field on various search and rescue calls.

There will be a large presence of search and rescue volunteers as a result, prominently near the Sparwood Campground, Mountain Shadows Loop and Golf Course on Saturday. The group will also be around the Line Creek area on Sunday to conclude the training exercise.

“There are no trail or road closures related to this event, and members of the public are welcome to observe from a safe distance,” said Sparwood SAR.
