Cranbrook Road Work Moves to Victoria Avenue

Cranbrook’s Victoria Avenue is being reduced to two lanes starting Thursday, as construction crews begin to pave from 6th Street North to 2nd Street North.

Pavement milling is starting Thursday before repaving work on Friday.

“Drivers are asked to please slow down in this area over the next couple of days,” said the City of Cranbrook. “Please respect and obey all signage and directions from flaggers on site. Please remember their safety, reduce your speed and allow extra space when passing.”

As well, Cranbrook motorist can also expect pavement patching work along 11th Avenue South from Baker Street to 1st Street South on Thursday.

At Cranbrook City Council on Monday, staff reported that the 2019 Capital Roads Program was about 90% complete with just two outstanding items. The first, being improvements to the Highway 95 intersection with Theatre Road, which is still in the works with the B.C. Ministry of Transporation. The other, is being worked on with CP Rail as they look to update and improve the railroad crossing at Jim Smith Lake Road.

Those projects are anticipated to get underway in 2019, with approximately a month and a half left in the construction season.
