Federal Election Campaigns Officially Underway

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has emerged from Rideau Hall after visiting the Governor General and asking her to dissolve Parliament to begin the formal federal election campaign.

Voters officially head to the polls on October 21st to elect their new federal government and their local Members of Parliament.

Trudeau said this is a chance for Canadians to have a say on the future of the country.

“We get to make an important choice about the future of our country. We get to decide what kind of future we want to build together.”

Trudeau will start stumping in British Columbia for a rally in the NDP-held riding of Vancouver-Kingsway while Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is bound for Quebec and then an evening rally in a Toronto suburb.  The NDP’s Jagmeet Singh is beginning his day in London, Ontario.

Locally, Kootenay-Columbia has seven candidates vying for the seat this coming federal election.

  • Wayne Stetski, New Democratic Party (NDP)

  • Robin Goldbsury, Liberal Party of Canada
  • Abra Brynne, Green Party of Canada
  • Trev Miller, Animal Protection Party of Canada
  • Rick Stewart, People’s Party of Canada (PPC)
  • Terry Tiessen, Libertarian Party of Canada

An all-candidates forum is tentatively scheduled for October 1, 2019, at the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook, while other forums will most likely be scheduled before voting day.
