Bird Causes Large Power Outage in Cranbrook Tuesday Morning

An early-morning outage in Cranbrook knocked out power to more than 2,000 homes as BC Hydro managed to restore power in about two hours time.

According to BC Hydro, a total of 2,084 customers were left in the dark around 12:49 am before power was fully restored around 2:46 am.

The official outage impacted properties east of King Street, south of Wildstone Drive, north of 5th Street, and west of College Way.

BC Hydro said the cause of the outage was a rogue bird that came into contact with their power lines.

Power has since been fully restored and there are no active outages in the East Kootenay region.
