Cranbrook RCMP has arrested one woman in connection to a “knife fight” that occurred Sunday afternoon.
According to RCMP, they responded to reports of a woman who had been assaulted around 5:00 pm in the nearby park in the 500 block of Victoria Avenue.
“The victim had advised us that she was actually with this person when things turned ugly and the other female started hitting her and pulled a knife of her,” Cst. Katie Forgeron told MyEastKootenayNow.com. “Luckily nobody was injured during this assault so we’re thankful for that.”
Cranbrook RCMP quickly arrived at the scene shortly after the reported assault.
“We were able to flood the scene with police officers (Sunday) and were able to arrest her quite quickly and bring her into custody.”
The woman remains in custody as the matter is still pending before the courts. Cranbrook RCMP has recommended three charges; Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Weapon in Unauthorized Possession.
Cranbrook RCMP is continuing to investigate, and are asking anyone that may have witnessed the altercation.
“We’re told that during the initial fight, there were other people in the area,” said Forgeron. “It is a well-travelled roadway, parkway, and it was early in the day so we’re wondering if anybody saw what was going on or has any information.”
Anyone with information about the altercation can contact the Cranbrook RCMP detachment at 250-489-3471.
