Fernie Search and Rescue was called out over the long weekend to rescue an injured hiker on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
Up along the Spineback Trail at Island Lake Lodge, a 61-year-old woman from Montreal had seriously rolled her ankle and broken a bone.
The Class D Fixed Line (CFDL) team from Fernie Search and Rescue responded by helicopter.
According to Fernie Search and Rescue, the woman’s injury was successfully stabilized as they were then able to extract the woman by helicopter into the care of the B.C. Ambulance Service.
The woman was further assessed in Fernie by the B.C. Ambulance Service following her helicopter rescue.
