Potential COVID-19 exposure confirmed at Fernie Academy

Interior Health’s latest update on potential COVID-19 exposures in schools reveals that the Fernie Academy had potential exposure to the virus on January 21st and 22nd.

The health authority made it clear that a “school exposure notification” does not necessarily mean that all students at the school were exposed to COVID-19.

“If you do not receive a phone call or letter from Interior Health, your child should continue to attend school. You can monitor your child for COVID-19 symptoms daily using the BC COVID-19 Health Assessment Tool,” said Interior Health.

IH said they are partnering with all school districts and independent schools on potential COVID-19 exposures, sharing information to provide an effective response.

“When a case of COVID-19 is confirmed, IH public health will work quickly to determine close contacts, and will contact parents/guardians of students who are considered to be at risk.”

News of the potential exposure at the school follows Interior Health declaring the Fernie region a COVID-19 community cluster last Wednesday, January 27th. Interior Health is set to provide an update on the community cluster on Thursday.
