Bear Spray Workshops Coming to Fernie and Sparwood

WildsSafeBC Elk Valley, in collaboration with the Fernie Chamber of Commerce and the Sparwood Trails Alliance, is hosting “How to Safely Use Bear Spray Workshops” in both Fernie and Sparwood in the coming weeks.

“The safest wildlife encounter is one prevented,” said WildSafeBC Elk Valley. “Having bear spray accessible and knowing how to use it will give you the confidence to do the right thing.”

The first workshop will be held in Fernie on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 pm while the second workshop will be at in Sparwood on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Sparwood Golf Clubhouse at 6:00 pm.

“Bear spray has been determined to be an effective deterrent that can reduce injury and potentially save your life,” added WildSafeBC Elk Valley. “Like a seat belt, it should be considered essential safety equipment when travelling in wildlife country.”

All three groups are inviting the public to learn how to respond to wildlife encounters and to get hands-on experience using bear spray.
