Body Found on Highway 3/93 Not Connected to Kimberley Homicide

BC RCMP Traffic Services confirmed that a body was found on the side of the highway Monday, which forced the closure of Highway 3 east of Cranbrook.

Around 9:20 am, Cranbrook RCMP and RCMP East Kootenay Traffic Services attended an incident on Highway 3/93. The incident was originally reported to MyEastKootenayNow.com as a “serious motor vehicle incident” by RCMP East Kootenay Traffic Services.

Cpl. Mike Halskov, Media Relations Officer with RCMP “E” Division Traffic Services told MyEastKootenayNow.com that the death occurred prior to the “collision” which does not rule out a number of possibilities for what occurred.

“East Kootenay Traffic Services, Cranbrook RCMP and the BC Coroners’ Service are continuing with the investigation,” said Halskov. “No further information is being sought from the public and no further information is available.”

Following Kimberley RCMP’s report of a homicide Sunday evening east of Kimberley on Highway 95A, MyEastKootenayNow.com asked Halskov if there was any potential connection of the two incidents.

“I have spoken with Kimberly RCMP,” said Halskov. “I am not aware of any connection between this incident and the recent homicide in Kimberley.”

No further information is expected into the death of the individual found on Highway 3/93 on Monday, while the Southeast District Major Crime Unit is anticipated to release more information about the Kimberley homicide once it is available.
