Kimberley Transit System Expanding in September

The Kimberley Transit System will be undergoing some changes in September as BC Transit and the City of Kimberley are expanding services.

“We’re very thankful for the help of BC Transit and working with us to improve on our local transit services,” said Troy Pollock, Planning Manager with the City of Kimberley. “Our commuter service has been operating a couple of years now and demand has been growing pretty consistently and we’re excited to have the new service starting September 3rd, right after the long weekend.”

The following routes are being affected by the service expansion, and will also be changing route numbers.

  • 1 Kimberley/Cranbrook changing to 21 Kimberley/Cranbrook
  • 2 KC Commuter changing to 22 KC Commuter
  • 3 Peak to Platzl Ski Shuttle changing to 23 Peak to Platzl Ski Shuttle
  • 4 On-Request Service changing to 24 On-Request Service

The 21 Kimberley/Cranbrook and 22 KC Commuter connecting Cranbrook and Kimberley is getting and expansion of service because of the demand from the public.

“I think it’s a really key service to have for local residents and visitors and the commuter service is one of those services that will be expanding, but also our regular daytime service to Cranbrook as well will be expanding.”

The 21 Kimberley/Cranbrook will provide services on Mondays to match the Tuesday to Friday schedule, while two additional trips are being added to the 22 KC Commuter, adding two more weekday trips, one in the morning and another in the evening.

Pollock told MyEastKootenayNow.com that the expansion of service should hopefully lead to even more residents taking advantage of their local transit system.

“Not all users will have the option of using their own vehicle, but some users are choosing to take the transit rather than drive their own vehicle then that’s a really good thing.”
